ExeVir and Mithra announce manufacturing collaboration for innovative Covid-19 treatments

15 July 2021, 07:30 CEST, Belgium: ExeVir, which is developing single domain antibody therapies providing broad protection against viral infections, and Mithra Pharmaceuticals (Euronext Brussels: MITRA) announce a new collaboration to utilize the fill and finish capabilities for ExeVir’s innovative therapies at Mithra’s integrated R&D and manufacturing platform, Mithra CDMO.
ExeVir launched less than one year ago and has made tremendous progress in building the company and an innovative pipeline. Following the final close of its $50 million Series A financing earlier this year, ExeVir is accelerating the development of XVR011 for the potential treatment and prevention of Covid-19. The Phase 1b/2 clinical study is designed as a registration trial targeting conditional or emergency approval.
XVR011 is a single domain-based anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody (llama-derived VHH-Fc) optimized for stability, safety, broad neutralizing capability and excellent manufacturability. It stops Covid-19 from entering human cells and demonstrates best-in-class potential offering breadth and potency against a range of Coronaviruses (pan-sarbecovirus neutralization) and is significantly differentiated from other antibody treatments. Preclinical data show XVR011 antibody to be effective against SARS-CoV-2, and importantly, its rapidly spreading variants of concern. ExeVir has recently generated data which demonstrate in vitro neutralization activity against SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern Gamma and Delta.
Mithra CDMO offers a complete spectrum of solutions from early drug development, clinical batches and commercial manufacturing of complex polymeric products (vaginal ring, implants) as well as hormonal tablets. Since July 2021, Mithra CDMO is operating a new manufacturing facility fully dedicated to fill & finish production of complex liquid injectables and biologicals in vials, pre-filled syringes or cartridges.
The selection of Mithra CDMO for the filling operations of ExeVir’s innovative Covid-19 therapeutic confirms its confidence in Mithra’s technological know-how and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Under the terms of the collaboration, Mithra will be responsible for upscaling and manufacturing services for filling the drug substance in support of clinical and commercial supply.

15 juillet 2021, 07:30 CEST, Belgique: ExeVir, qui développe des traitements par anticorps à domaine unique offrant une large protection contre des infections virales, et Mithra Pharmaceuticals (Euronext Brussels: MITRA) annoncent une nouvelle collaboration visant à utiliser les installations de finition et de remplissage du Mithra CDMO – la plateforme de R&D et de production de Mithra – pour les traitements innovants d’ExeVir.
Lancée il y a un peu moins d’un an, ExeVir a réalisé d’énormes avancées dans le développement de l’entreprise et de son portefeuille de produits innovants. Suite au succès de financement de série A de 50 millions de dollars conclu en mars dernier, ExeVir a accéléré le développement de l’anticorps XVR011 pour le traitement et la prévention potentiels du Covid-19. Le design de l’étude clinique de Phase 1b/2 vise à obtenir une homologation d’urgence ou sous conditions.
XVR011, le produit phare d’Exevir, est un anticorps anti-SARS-CoV-2 à domaine unique (dérivé du lama VHH-Fc), optimisé à des fins de stabilité et de sécurité et doté d’une vaste capacité de neutralisation et d’une grande facilité de fabrication. Il empêche le Covid-19 de pénétrer dans les cellules humaines et se différencie fortement des autres anticorps. Il présente potentiellement un plus grand son spectre d’action et une efficacité contre un large éventail de coronavirus (neutralisation des pan-sarbécovirus). Des données précliniques montrent que l’anticorps XVR011 est efficace contre le virus SARS-CoV-2, mais également contre tous les variants qui se propagent rapidement. Les données récentes générées par ExeVir démontrent une forte capacité de neutralisation in vitro des variants Delta et Gamma.
Le Mithra CDMO offre une large gamme de services allant du développement complet de médicaments aux lots cliniques, en passant par la production commerciale de comprimés hormonaux et de produits complexes à base de polymères (anneaux vaginaux, implants). Depuis juillet 2021, le Mithra CDMO dispose également d’une nouvelle unité de production entièrement dédié à une production « fill & finish » de produits injectables liquides complexes et de produits biologiques, tant en flacons qu’en seringues préremplies ou en cartouches.
En sélectionnant le Mithra CDMO pour la production de sa thérapie innovante pour le Covid-19, ExeVir confirme sa confiance dans le savoir-faire technologique et les infrastructures de pointe de Mithra. Selon les termes de la collaboration, Mithra sera responsable de remplir des activités de logistique et de production, en ce compris le remplissage de la substance médicamenteuse en vue de répondre aux besoins en approvisionnement clinique et commercial.

ExeVir werd minder dan een jaar geleden gelanceerd en heeft een enorme vooruitgang geboekt in de opbouw van het bedrijf en een innovatieve pijplijn. Na de afsluiting van een Series A kapitaalronde van $50 miljoen eerder dit jaar, versnelt ExeVir de ontwikkeling van XVR011 dat zich richt op de potentiële behandeling en preventie van COVID-19. De klinische studie van fase 1b/2 is ontworpen als een registratiestudie voor goedkeuring in deze gezondheidscrisis
XVR011 is een enkeldomein anti-SARS-CoV-2 antilichaam (van lama’s afgeleid VHH) gekoppeld aan een humane Fc en geoptimaliseerd voor stabiliteit, veiligheid, breed neutraliserend vermogen en uitstekende produceerbaarheid. Het verhindert dat COVID-19 menselijke cellen binnendringt, biedt het beste potentieel in zijn klasse tegen een reeks van Coronavirussen (pan-sarbecovirus neutralisatie) en onderscheidt zich aanzienlijk van andere antilichaambehandelingen. Preklinische gegevens tonen aan dat XVR011 antilichaam effectief is tegen SARS-CoV-2, en wat belangrijk is, de snel verspreidende varianten. ExeVir heeft onlangs gegevens gegenereerd die in vitro neutralisatieactiviteit aantonen tegen de zorgwekkende SARS-CoV-2 varianten Gamma en Delta.
Mithra CDMO biedt een compleet spectrum oplossingen aan. Van vroege geneesmiddelenontwikkeling, klinische batches tot commerciële productie van complexe polymere producten (vaginale ring, implantaten) en hormonale tabletten.
